Release of ENC Summary – “The Role of Youth and Education in Conflict Resolution: What lessons for the European Union?”

The European Neighbourhood Council (ENC) is publishing a summary of the “YouTopic Fest – the first festival on the topic of conflict” organized by Rondine Cittadella della Pace, that took place in Rondine (Italy) from June 8 to 11, 2017. The summary includes input from ENC Head Researcher for Eastern Europe and Central Asia Andreas Marazis and ENC research staff.

This initiative underlines the importance of education and youth as tools to break the deadlock in protracted conflicts in Europe’s wider neighbourhood and is in line with the European Union’s (EU) 2009 Non-Recognition and Engagement policy. While the so-called frozen conflicts remain unresolved, the EU can and must do more in order to break the isolation of these entities by providing access to education for young people.
